Mid-month update October 2018
Hi friends and neighbors – as promised, here is my mid-month update for October 2018 what is going in Superior these days. Please let me know if you find these updates helpful or if you have any questions or comments.
—————————–
Election 2018: Election day is Tuesday, November 6. In Superior, we will be electing a Mayor and 3 Trustees. Mayor Clint Folsom is running for re-election. Gladys Forshee and Jack Chang are also running for Mayor. There are 6 candidates for Trustee: Laura Skladzinski, Ken Lish, Neal Shah, Anthony Stewart, Terrie Clark, and Dalton Valette.
If you are registered to vote, you should be receiving your ballot in the mail this week. If you are not registered to vote, you can register to vote up through Election Day. Follow this link to register to vote: https://www.bouldercounty.org/elections/register/. You can drop off your ballot at Town Hall, or at one of several drop boxes throughout Boulder County. You can also mail in your ballot, but it will need to be received by Election Day in order to be counted.
Budget: On October 8, the Town Board approved our Town’s 2019 Budget. Some notable projects included in that Budget were funds to (1) construct a playground in Riverbend Park (North Rock Creek); (2) install a traffic light at Coal Creek Drive & Rock Creek Parkway; and (3) make permanent the closure at Weldona & 88th.
The Board also lowered property taxes. For residents who live in Rock Creek, the mill levies for Superior Metro Districts 2 and 3 will be reduced from 5 mills to ZERO. These Districts were created to fund the infrastructure built in Rock Creek in the late 1990s. 20-year bonds were utilized to finance that infrastructure, which have now been fully repaid. In addition, our Town’s debt continues to be reduced. In 2006, our Town’s outstanding debt obligations were over $70 million. In 2019, that debt will be reduced to less than $30 million and is projected to decrease into the future.
McCaslin has been repaved/striped and all lanes are now open in both directions. Thank you to everyone for your patience.
The Tesla dealership building (at the corner of McCaslin & Marshall) has gone vertical. The exterior of the building should be completed by January (weather permitting), with interior finishes to follow. Tesla expects to be open for business in Spring 2019.
Construction has begun on the development of 20 residential units and 10 duplexes in the Discovery Office Park subdivision (off of McCaslin). This development was approved by the Board in February 2018. For an idea of what this development will look like, follow this link: http://townofsuperior.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php…
If you are curious about locations of other developments in town, I’ve attached is a map that identifies development areas in Town. All property is privately owned (with the exception of Richmond also known as “The Town 15” which is owned by the Town of Superior.)
We’ve got a lot of great things going on in our Town. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve you all as your Trustee.
