Mid-month update November 2018
Hi friends and neighbors –
As promised, here is your mid-month update. November has been a busy month…and it’s only half over.
As you all know, Superior faced our first oil and gas drilling application. As of November 15th, all applications in Superior and under Rocky Flats have been withdrawn. While the past two weeks have been stressful for many here in Town, it’s also been a HUGE wake up call. We are not immune to oil & gas development. We need to be prepared and ready for the next fight. And that’s exactly what your Town Board is committed to doing — moving forward with ways to protect our community against future threats. We will be discussing our plans and comprehensive strategy to address oil and gas development at our next scheduled Town Board meeting on November 27th. We hope you will attend. Despite the stress that this application caused, I’ve never felt prouder of our little town than I have these last two weeks. It was amazing to see this community come together. It is amazing to know that when we need your support, you show up…. in hundreds at Town Hall, on social media, on the COGCC’s website, etc… Superior residents, you are amazing.
Progress on the Superior Skate Park continues. Weather permitting, the skate park should be complete sometime in December.
The Ethan Allen store next to Costco is complete. Welcome to Superior!
The rezoning of the former Land Rover dealership will be considered by the Planning Commission on Tuesday, November 20. In 1998, this parcel was rezoned from Community Activity Center (CAC) to Regional Activity Center (RAC). As part of that zoning change, the property owner agreed that the zoning would revert to CAC should Land Rover leave the site. As Land Rover has vacated this site, the Town has commenced the rezoning process to restore this parcel to CAC zoning. Following the Planning Commission’s hearing, the Town Board should consider this application sometime in December or January.
Congratulations to Mayor Clint Folsom for winning re-election and congrats to Laura Skladzinkski, Ken Lish, and Neal Shah for being elected as Trustees. We are extremely lucky to have such a talented group of individuals who have decided to serve on the Town Board. Many thanks to Gladys Forshee, Jack Chang, Theresa Clark, Anthony Stewart, and Dalton Valette for running for office. It takes a tremendous amount of guts to run for office… to put yourself out there and subject yourself to public criticism. I am looking forward to working with the new Board in the years to come.
We all have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. In addition to being thankful for my family and friends, I am immensely thankful for all of you — our community — whom I am so fortunate to represent as a Trustee on the Superior Town Board. You are incredible.
Thankfully yours,
Mark
