Hi everyone – here’s my mid-month update for September 2019. Please share your feedback if you find these updates useful for the community.
Tesla has submitted their business license application, building permit application, and plans for the interior finishes for the Sales & Service facility at the corner of Marshall & McCaslin. Everything has been approved and construction is expected to start soon. Town Staff has also had discussions with Tesla to install Supercharger stations along Sycamore Street next to the Superior Marketplace.
The Town has closed on the purchase of the former Land Rover dealership. Our Town’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Department has moved its offices into the Land Rover building while the Town decides on the renovations and future use of the building. The Town issued a Request for Qualifications for architectural/design firms and received responses from 8 firms. The Town Board is slated to hear presentations from the top 4 firms in October to help formulate the vision for this building and then will select the architect to use for the project.
Construction has started on the new trailhead located on the former Shan-Shan property. This property is located West of McCaslin on the hillside overlooking Original Town, South of the Keybank building. When completed this will provide a new trailhead and parking lot to access the open space west of Superior. Preliminary staking and drainage is complete and the next steps for the project are to lay the asphalt, install the fencing, and provide a connection to the existing trail. The Town Board is working with the Open Space Advisory Committee (OSAC) on discussing adding options into this new amenity (possibly bathrooms, a shelter, picnic tables, etc.)
On Monday, September 16, the Town Board will hear from the Town’s finance director who will present the Town’s draft 2020 Budget. The Town Board will consider and vote on the Town Budget at a meeting later this year. As noted in the attached, Superior continues to reduce its overall debt obligations, while reducing property taxes as well.
Some interesting projects worth noting as included in the 2020 Budget:

On Monday, September 30, 2019, the Superior Town Board will be holding a joint meeting with the City of Louisville regarding noise and flight traffic from the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (RMMA). At this meeting, we will hear the results and recommendations from the consultants ABCx2 who were jointly retained by Superior/Louisville to help find solutions to the increased air traffic flying over Superior and Louisville from RMMA.
The Town is in the process of negotiating an agreement with Verizon to install a macro tower facility in Community Park, which will hopefully address the coverage issues in Superior. A draft agreement is currently being reviewed by Verizon’s lawyers and we hope to have a finalized agreement for the Town Board to consider at an upcoming meeting.
What is the “Lowdown with Trustee Lacis” program? It’s your time to meet with me 1:1 for an hour to discuss whatever is on your mind related to the Town. I started the program in July and have had the opportunity to meet over a dozen residents and discuss different topics: development, traffic, pesticide use, water quality, airplane noise, etc. All of the times for September are full (thank you – I am humbled that people actually want to talk to me!) but if you’d like to schedule a Lowdown, please shoot me an email and we’ll find a time:
