Dear Superior community,
Six years ago, you elected me as your Trustee in the Town of Superior. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve and represent you. Today, I am announcing my candidacy for Mayor, so I can continue to serve our community for the next four years.
During my time on the Board, the Town has accomplished many great things. We made the largest open space acquisition in town history and opened the amazing Superior Community Center. We brought new businesses to town, opened new parks, invested in public art, and created new community events. We passed tough oil and gas regulations and adopted a Sustainability Action Plan which puts protecting public health and the environment first. We also invested in our infrastructure, with improvements to our roads, bridges, and water treatment plants.
As Trustee, I worked to increase community engagement, improve communication, and better push information out to our residents. I write a monthly blog that updates the community on current issues, regularly engage with residents on social media, host “First Fridays” and “Lowdowns with Trustee Lacis” where I meet with residents in-person, and I helped implement the Town’s weekly digests that preview upcoming meetings and recap past ones.
On December 30, however, our town was forever changed. The Marshall Fire devastated Superior and the surrounding area. 1 out of every 7 homes in Superior was lost. Businesses closed and critical infrastructure was damaged. Over the past 6 months, I’ve worked tirelessly to lead our town through the recovery process. But it’s going to take years for us to heal and there is so much more work to be done.
As Mayor, my top priority will be to continue to lead our community through the Marshall Fire recovery… helping those who lost their homes to rebuild, helping those whose homes were damaged to recover, and helping everyone in our community to heal. The Marshall Fire has had — and will continue to have — a substantial financial impact on the Town and there will be many difficult decisions ahead, especially in light of uncertain economic conditions and inflation.
But I am still hopeful for our future. We will rise from the ashes and we will recover. We need to complete Downtown Superior with the vibrant Main Street that was promised to our residents. And, we need to continue to deliver the level of services that our residents need and expect which make Superior one of the best places to live and raise a family.
Superior needs strong leadership now more than ever and I am ready to serve. To learn more about who I am and what I stand for, please visit my website www.marklacis.com.
Thank you for your support.
Respectfully,
